THE JURY is a place to put a dilemma to a vote. This page says exactly what is stored when you use it, why, and how to get it removed. It describes the code as it is built — not a generic template.

What is stored

A random identifier, not a name
The first time your browser talks to the site, the server mints a random id and hands it back as a signed, HttpOnly cookie (jury_vid, kept for two years). It contains no name, no email, no fingerprint. It exists so that one browser is one vote and so that Karma can accumulate. Clear your cookies and you become a new, unrelated visitor.
What you submit
Your votes, your comments, the dilemmas you post, and any evidence photo you attach. These are tied to that random id, or to your account id if you signed in. Posted dilemmas and comments are public by design.
If you sign in
Signing in with Google or X gives us the account id that provider returns, plus your display name, email address and avatar URL. We store those four fields to show who wrote what. We never receive your password and we cannot post on your behalf.
Counters
Page views, votes, submissions and comments are counted per day in our own database, keyed by the same random id. There is no third-party analytics, no advertising network, no tracking pixel and no cross-site profiling on this site.
Payments
Optional paid features are processed by a payment provider. Card details go to that provider directly; we receive only a payment reference and a status.

Why it is stored

To run the vote (one ballot per browser), to show the thread to the people who took part, to keep the Karma ledger consistent, and to keep spam and abuse out. Nothing is sold, rented or shared for advertising.

Who else touches it

The site runs on Cloudflare (Pages and D1). Data is stored in Cloudflare's network and is subject to their terms as our hosting provider. If you choose to sign in, Google or X processes the sign-in itself under their own privacy policies.

How long it stays

Votes, comments and cases are kept while the site runs, because a verdict without its ballots is meaningless. Moderation hides content rather than deleting it, so that a wrong call can be undone. You can ask for your own contributions to be removed — see below.

Your choices

You can browse and vote without ever signing in. You can clear the cookie at any time to reset your identity. To have your account, comments or submissions deleted, write to privacy@example.com and say which. We aim to answer within 30 days.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you also have the right to access, correct, port or object to the processing of your data, and to complain to your local data protection authority.

Children

The site is not intended for anyone under 13, and we do not knowingly keep data from children under 13. If you believe a child has posted here, write to the address above and it will be removed.

Changes

If this page changes in a way that matters, the date at the top changes with it. Continued use after a change means you accept the new version.
